Panelists and Moderators
Kelly Akashi (born in 1983, Los Angeles) lives and works in Los Angeles. Current and recent solo exhibitions include Figure Shifter, François Ghebaly, Los Angeles (2019) and Long Exposure, SculptureCenter, New York (2017). Recent group exhibitions include Simon Lee Gallery, New York (2018), Tanya Bonakdar, New York (2018); White Cube, London (2017); and Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2016). In 2019 she will be an artist in residence at ARCH Athens, Greece and the Headlands Center for the Arts, Marin County, California, each culminating in a solo exhibition.
Kori Newkirk (b. 1970, The Bronx, NY) lives and works in Los Angeles. His commissioned Frieze Project, Signal, is on view on the backlot. Recent solo exhibitions include Roberts Projects, Los Angeles (2016); The Project, New York (2009, 2006); The Studio Museum in Harlem (2008); LA><ART, Los Angeles (2008); MC, Los Angeles (2006), the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego (2005); and Locust Projects, Miami, Florida (2005). Group exhibitions include Blues for Smoke, MOCA, Los Angeles (2013), the 2006 Whitney Biennial, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; DAK’ART: 7th Dakar Biennial, Dakar, Senegal (2006), Uncertain States of America, Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art, Oslo, Norway (2005-2006), the 2004 California Biennial, Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach, California; and Freestyle, The Studio Museum of Harlem (2001).
Eamon Ore-Giron is based in Los Angeles. He has had solo exhibitions at LAXART, Los Angeles (2015); Nicelle Beauchene Gallery, New York (2013); Pérez Art Museum Miami (2013); MUCA ROMA, Mexico City (2006). Ore-Giron’s work has been included in group shows at the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Museo Tamayo, Mexico City; Prospect.3, New Orleans; and Deitch Projects, New York.
Mary Weatherford (b. 1963, Ojai, California) is the subject of a traveling survey exhibition, Mary Weatherford: Canyon-Daisy-Eden, that will debut at Skidmore College’s Tang Museum in 2020. Other solo exhibitions include Gagosian, New York (2018); David Kordansky Gallery, Los Angeles (2017); the Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum, Claremont McKenna College, Claremont, California (2014); Careyes Art Space, Careyes, Mexico (2014); LAXART, Los Angeles (2012); and Todd Madigan Gallery, California State University at Bakersfield, California (2012). She lives and works in Los Angeles.
Naima Keith and Diana Nawi are Artistic Co-Directors of Prospect.5, to take place in New Orleans in fall 2020. Keith is the deputy director and chief curator of the California African American Museum in Los Angeles. Diana Nawi is an LA–based independent curator who recently returned from Miami, where she was Associate Curator at Pérez Art Museum Miami.
