Dear Reader,

X-TRA is celebrating twenty years! Twenty years of providing a platform for artists to define the terms of their own engagement! Twenty years of diverse, high quality critical writing from Los Angeles! Twenty years of free distribution to schools! Twenty years of provoking and promoting intelligent arts discourse!

Today, the need for independent, intelligent critical engagement with art and ideas is more important than ever. Support from our community is crucial. Your generosity keeps the torch of intelligent critical discourse burning bright!

Every dollar contributed before Dec 31, 2017 will be doubled by the Project X $20,000 Matching Fund. Already a member? Give a little more for 2x the impact! Please contribute today!

2017 was a great year for X-TRA and Project X. Some highlights: Aria Dean on Ulysses Jenkins and the Non-Ontology of Blackness, Christine Wertheim on Johanna Went, conversations between artists Mariah Garnett and William E. Jones with Suzy Halajian as well as Alice Wang and Carol Bove, A.L. Steiner’s piece for our new ARTIST WRITES series, and original Artist’s Projects by Patrick Staff, Patricia Fernández, Doran George, and Rakish Light. We presented 7 public events with more than 500 audience members, including an 8-hour lecture by A.L. Steiner at the Women’s Center for Creative Work. And we initiated direct to web X-TRA Online content with artist’s columns by EJ Hill and Nao Bustamante. Your Membership makes possible this full range of Project X’s offerings; the publication of X-TRA, as well as our website, public events, arts publications and artist editions.

X-TRA’s archive and website is an important and vital historical record of the past twenty years, with over 450 artist and writer contributors. Your gift to X-TRA and Project X directly supports artists and writers, and the intellectual conversation necessary to bring out the best for all arts institutions in LA, and beyond.

2018 is going to be big! Your gift will support: a lecture by Andrea Fraser, commissions from Martine Syms and Pope.L, X-TRA Artist’s Projects by Lex Brown and Carmen Argote, Jan Tumlir’s forthcoming book on noise and monochromes, events with artists Malik Gaines, Michelle Grabner, Pope.L, Tracy Jeanne Rosenthal, Patrick Staff, Martine Syms, the expansion of X-TRA Online and the everyday nuts and bolts making a small nonprofit work.

Make a fully tax-deductible Donation OR join or renew as a Project X Member!

Do it by December 31, and your gift is DOUBLED! Project X Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit and all contributions are tax-deductible.

Thank you!

With best wishes for the coming year,
